New Regulatory Statement published to guide the SLCC’s work
The SLCC has published a Regulatory Statement to guide its work as it implements the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025.
The statement responds to the Regulatory Objectives, set out in chapter 1 of the Act which are intended to guide the approach of all Regulatory Authorities, including the SLCC.
Commenting on the consultation, Director of Public Policy, Vicky Crichton, said, “The new Act introduces significant changes to the SLCC’s powers and functions. Developing our first Regulatory Statement has given us the opportunity to set out what will guide our approach to implementing those changes and to delivering our duties.
“Grounding that approach in the Regulatory Objectives helps us to ensure we’re playing our part in meeting the aims Parliament has set out for the regulatory and complaints system.
“We are grateful to everyone who took the time to respond to our consultation and inform our thinking. This statement has been significantly strengthened by their input.
“Other regulatory authorities will be considering how they interpret the objectives with reference to their own powers and functions so we look forward to engagement and learning on these issues as we all implement these changes. We intend to keep this statement under review as that work develops.”
