SLCC Board agrees reduced levy for 2022-23
The SLCC has confirmed its plan to deliver a 5% reduction in the levy for solicitors, advocates and commercial attorneys. This is the second year running the SLCC will deliver a reduction in the general levy, and the proposal was welcomed by the Law Society of Scotland in its response to the SLCC’s statutory consultation.

SLCC Research
As part of its oversight role the SLCC monitors complaints and identifies trends in practice, in relation to how practitioners deal with complaints and the subject of those complaints. This includes undertaking research. The latest research the SLCC is carrying out is into complaints made to, and dealt with, by the legal profession in Scotland.

On Wednesday night, the BBC screened the latest BBC Scotland Investigates: “Lawyers Behaving Badly”. The programme investigated the regulation of the legal profession in Scotland and the role of the different organisations involved. We welcome the programme for raising some important issues.
Research into Complaint Numbers and Practitioners' Handling of Complaints
In June 2012, TNS BMRB produced two reports following research commissioned by the SLCC. Specifically, the research looked at complaint numbers and the methods adopted by practitioners (both solicitors and advocates) in how they handle complaints made against them.
Appointment of new Chair
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Brackenridge as Chair of the SLCC. The appointment will be for five years. He replaces Jane Irvine, the first Chair of the SLCC, who served from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2012.
SLCC announces Neil Stevenson is new CEO
The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, the independent body for complaints against solicitors, advocates and other legal practitioners in Scotland, has announced the appointment of Neil Stevenson as its new Chief Executive Officer.
