SLCC becomes a 50:50 by 2020 partner and gains Living Wage accreditation

01/06/2016

The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC) has been made an official partner organisation of 50:50 by 2020 and in the same month has been accredited as a Living Wage employer.

The recent recruitment exercise for new Board members saw an unprecedented level of interest in the organisation, with a diverse advertising strategy for the positions which used social media and equality networking groups to target the most diverse possible audience. The SLCC Board already meets the 50:50 by 2020 target, and with a further recruitment exercise planned later in this year there is another opportunity to broaden the experience and expertise on the Board.

The SLCC has, since its inception, always paid the living wage to all staff.  The organisation has recently been formally accredited by the Living Wage Foundation following work to ensure all our suppliers (from IT to building services) were also working towards these goals.

Commenting on the achievements, Chief Executive Neil Stevenson said “We are delighted at both of these recognitions of our culture and values.  To deliver a high quality and efficient service to consumers and lawyers we need talented individuals with diverse thinking and problem solving at every level of our organisation.  Both initiatives have helped us audit and improve our own approach, and the external verification helps us demonstrate to others that we are an organisation focussed on best practice around equality and employment practice.”

Following extensive consultation and feedback earlier in the year, the SLCC will launch a new strategy in the summer.  One of the five priority areas is to ensure the organisation is a high performing complaints body and employer, attracting and retaining talented people.
