Guidance by business area

The SLCC regularly reports on the top areas of law which attract the most complaints. Using this information we have published guidance for consumers to help them avoid the pitfalls that lead to complaints in these areas.

We have now also produced the first in a series of dedicated practitioner guidance, Criminal law - Avoiding complaints, a guide for Scottish solicitors.

The guide is specifically aimed at helping solicitors avoid complaints in this area. Throughout the guide there are anonymised case examples and s.40 best practice guidance. If followed, we believe that this guidance can significantly reduce the risk of a complaint being made.
